Challenge

Bettermile, a SaaS product builder for last-mile parcel deliveries including tracking solutions , aimed to improve its real-time tracking capabilities, specifically for estimating delivery times (ETA). At the outset, their client systems relied on static, hard-coded approximations, which limited accuracy and failed to meet the growing expectations of their customers. 

This challenge was critical to address as real-time tracking has become a key differentiator in the logistics industry. To maintain competitiveness and ensure customer satisfaction, Bettermile needed a scalable, data-driven approach to modernize its tracking solutions. 

Action

Building AI Maturity in Stages 

DAIN Studios collaborated with Bettermile to improve their tracking solutions and build AI maturity. The project involved a phased approach: 

  • Evaluating the Current State
    Bettermile’s initial tracking system was assessed against real delivery data to pinpoint inefficiencies and improvement opportunities. 
  • Developing a Data-Driven Solution
    Designed and implemented a more dynamic tracking system, regularly updated with real-time data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate delivery performance. The solution leveraged existing tools, such as Bettermile’s “Tour Commander” product, ensuring seamless integration. 
  • Upskilling the Team
    Transferred the solution to Bettermile’s team, initially comprised of junior analysts, through workshops and continuous support. 
  • Iterative Collaboration
    Supported  Bettermile’s team to maintain and improve the solution. Introduced a second-generation solution, Cloud Tracking, in close collaboration with the Real-Time Tracking team. This solution became a cornerstone for operational expansion. 

Ongoing Partnership 

DAIN Studios’ role extended beyond initial delivery: 

  • Continuous Support: Provided ongoing guidance to Bettermile’s Tracking team, averaging 0.5 days per week. 
  • Ad-Hoc Collaboration: Assisted other product teams with advanced analytics and data challenges. 
  • High-Intensity Collaboration: Delivered tailored workshops and solutions to address specific issues within the Tracking team.
